Education

Scott was born in Raleigh and raised in Wake Forest and Knightdale. He attended Wake County Public Schools K-12 and graduated from East Wake High School in 2001. He received his B.A. from UNC-Greensboro in 2004 and his Law Degree and Master’s in Business Administration from Campbell University in 2008.

Family

Scott Lives in Wake Forest with his Partner Katie Riebe and their two sons, Liam (8) and Aiden (6). Scott and Katie are proud to have two excellent students attending Wake County Public Schools. The family currently has 2 fish and are planning to add a puppy soon. Scott’s Father, Ben McKaig, recently retired after teaching in Wake Country Public Schools for 32 years and his Mother, Deborah McKaig, has been working as a nurse in the NICU at Rex Hospital for 39 years.

Career Achievements

After Graduating from Law School in 2008, Scott spent the first part of his career operating his own law firm in Raleigh. A significant portion of his practice was court appointed criminal defense work and work with juveniles. Since 2014, Scott has worked for technology companies, a clinical research company, a financial services company and in several positions for the State of North Carolina. In 2018, Scott accepted a position as General Counsel with a non-profit organization dedicated to bridging the gap between technology and policy makers. In addition to his day job, Scott works as an Adjunct Professor in the Business Department at Wake Tech Community College and was appointed to the Tryon Palace Commission by Governor McCrory in 2016.

Hobbies

In his limited spare time, Scott enjoys spending time with Katie and the kids and cooking. He cooks competition BBQ a couple of times a year and has been entering baked goods in the NC State fair every year since 2012. Scott is a freemason with Raleigh Lodge #500.
